Indonesia participates in TUR 2009

Indonesia participates in the largest Travel Fair in Scandinavia
TUR 2009, Gothenburg, Sweden, on 19-22 March 2009

The Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm in cooperation with the Government of Sleman Regency in Yogyakarta and the Java Pavilion represents Indonesia on the TUR Mässan 2009 held in Gothenburg, Sweden on 19-22 March 2009. More than 100 countries are represented in the Fair with the theme of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, exhibition, Convention). It is estimated that over 60.000 visitors will attend the four day event. The first two days are open only to travel business community, while the last two days are open to Public.

Several participants from Indonesia join the Indonesian Embassy in promoting Indonesia during the Fair, representing the Provincial Government of Yogyakarta, the Regency of Sleman, Tunas Indonesia Travel, Mekar Wisata Tour & Travel and Java Pavilion. In addition, for the first time a number of Swedish Travel Agents that sale and promote Indonesia also participate in the Indonesian contingent such as Orient Tours and Flygresa International.

The Java Pavilion that consists of a number of Travel Agents and Hoteliers in Yogyakarta, Central and East Java Provinces, has designed various interesting travel programs and tour packages in Java, Bali, Borneo/Kalimantan, and eastern Indonesia for the potential buyers such as the Travel Agents /Travel Business Society or Public in General from Sweden and other Scandinavian countries.

The Indonesian booth promotes its potentials in tourism that is a combination of Culture, Leisure, Nature and Adventure in addition to its fabulous accommodation facilities offered throughout the country. Based on the information from the Swedish travel business society, the number of Swedish tourists to Indonesia has steadily increased every year and Indonesia has become one of specific destinations.

The global financial problems that have affected a number of countries in Europe do not bring serious impact to the enthusiasm of Swedish people in spending their holidays abroad. In fact, the number of Swedish outbound tourists to specific destinations has been increasing in recent years, particularly those from the middle to upper level of income and pensioners.

The main goal of Indonesia’s participation in the Fair is to extend business contact and networking between Swedish travel business community in particular, and Scandinavian in general, and its Indonesian counterparts as an effort to increase the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia. Sweden with the population around 9 million is a big market for Indonesian tourism. Indonesia’s participation in the Travel Fair is also supporting the success of “Visit Indonesia Year 2009”.
