Indonesian Minister for Communication and Information, visiting Sweden, 11-13 February 2010

Members of Indonesia’s cabinet and parliament are scheduled to make a 3 day official visit to Sweden on 11-13 February 2010 to strengthen the already good relations between the two countries. The Indonesian delegation will consist of among others the Minister of Communication and Information, Mr. Tifatul Sembiring and Chairman of Committee on Foreign Relations, Security and Defense of the Indonesian Parliament, Mr. Kemal Azis Stamboel.

 

Minister Sembiring is scheduled to meet with Swedish Minister of communication and Information Technology, Ms. Åsa Tortensson to discuss bilateral issues particularly in improving the cooperation between the two countries in the field of Communication and information technology. Meeting with number of business community including CEO of Ericsson, Mr. Hans Vestberg is also scheduled during the visit.  

 

On Friday, 12 February 2010, the Indonesian Minister will open the Indonesia Day at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. The one day Seminar organized by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Embassy of Indonesia in Stockholm will address the opportunity of improving the economic and trade relations including investing in Indonesia by Swedish companies. More than 50 swedish companies are confirmed to participate in the seminar.

 

Meanwhile, Mr. Stamboel will be meeting his counterparts from the Swedish Parliament Riksdag among others the Riksdag Speaker Mr. Per Westerberg and chairman of Committee on Foreign Relations of Riksdag, Mr. Göran Lennmarker. The meeting will discuss the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Sweden and the parliaments of the two countries.

 

Indonesia and Sweden has taken common position in promoting democracy in the international forum. Indonesia as the third largest democracy in the world, is in the view that promoting democracy is not only the task of democratically elected government but also the role of Parliament. Exchange of views and experience between members of Parliament of the two countries is essential.
