I. DARMASISWA RI PROGRAM

DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations, to study Indonesian language, arts, music and crafts. Participant can choose to study at any university and college participating in the program.

The main purpose of the Darmasiswa program is to arouse and foster interest in the language and culture of Indonesia among citizens of friendly countries. It has also been designed to reciprocate scholarship for Indonesian citizens and provide stronger cultural links with these nations.

The DARMASISWA program is essentially a “non-degree” program undertaken within or less than one year. The participants are prohibited from engaging in any political and/or business activities which may result in destabilizing government programs or lead to personal profit/gain.

Darmasiswa RI Program offered with 3 schemes, i.e:
• Darmasiswa Regular Program – 1 year
• Darmasiswa Plus Program – 1 year
• Darmasiswa Short Course Program – 6 months
 

A. DARMASISWA RI REGULER PROGRAM

1. Right and Obligation of Participants

a.  Free of tuition fee
b.  Willing to do assistantship in teaching-learning and academic for 5 (five) hours/week
c.  The participants may seek assistance from their own university in finding a house/room to rent.
d.  The participants will be fetched at the airport when they arrive.

2. Schedule of Darmasiswa RI Reguler Program

a.  The final submission of the application: end of March 2007
b.  Selection of documents: Mid of April every year
c.  Orientation and Bahasa Indonesia course: 4th week of August every year
d.  Academic program: August/September to July every year

B. DARMASISWA RI PLUS PROGRAM

Students of DARMASISWA program who have been invited to study in university/college required to teach one of their foreign languages (English, French, German, Japanese and Chinese) to schools as a native speaker.

1. Right and Obligation of Participants

a.  Free of tuition fee
b.  Willing to teach foreign language in the Indonesian schools for 10 (ten) hours/week.
c.  The participants may seek assistance from their own school in finding a house/room to rent.
d.  The participants will be fetched at the airport when they arrive.

2. Schedule of Darmasiswa RI Plus Program

a.  The final submission of the application: end of March 2007
b.  Selection of documents: 1 May 2007
c.  Orientation, Bahasa Indonesia course and Teaching Methodology: 1st week of August every year
d.  Teaching program: 1st week of September until 2nd week of December every year and 1st week of May until 4th week of July every year.
e.  Academic program: 1st week of January until 4th week of April every year

C. DARMASISWA RI SHORT COURSE PROGRAM

Darmasiswa RI Scholarship Short Course Program aims to facilitate the upgrading of the foreign students ability on Bahasa Indonesia in Indonesian Higher Education Institutions for the period of 6 (six) months. The students will obtain the undergraduate as well as graduate programs in the Indonesia Higher Education Institutions using their own cost.

c.  The participants will be fetched at the airport when they arrive.

2. Schedule of Darmasiswa RI Short Course Program

a.  The final submission of the application: end of December every year

c.  Announcement: 2nd week of January every year
d.  Academic program: 1st week of March to August every year

II. PROCEDURES (Darmasiswa RI Reguler Program, Darmasiswa RI Plus Program and Darmasiswa RI Short Course Program)

A. DOCUMENTS OF APPLICANTS

The applicants are allowed to apply for more than one Higher Education Institution and submit their complete application forms and other documents to the Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia where the applicants reside.

The documents of applicants who have been selected by the Indonesian Embassy will be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education or the Directorate of Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed:

B. QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS (Darmasiswa RI Reguler and Darmasiswa RI Plus Programs)

The applicants for the DARMASISWA Scholarship of the Republic of Indonesia should meet the following qualifications:

1. Not more than 35 years old.
2. Have completed Secondary Education or its equivalent.
3. Have basic knowledge of the field they are applying for.
4. Have filled in Application Form provided by the Ministry of National Education (MONE) through the Indonesian Embassy in their country of residence. The said form should be accompanied by three (3) copies of the applicant’s latest passport photo.
5. Be in good health as evidenced by a Medical Certificate duly signed by a doctor from their countries of residence and the Medical Examination Form provided by the MONE through the Indonesian Embassy in the applicant’s country of residence.
6. Submit their application documents to the Indonesian Embassy in their country of residence.
7. Submit five (5) copies of their latest passport photo of 2 x 3 cm and 4 x 6 cm to the MONE upon arrival in Indonesia.
8. Submit a photocopy of their passports valid for the least two (2) years.


C. QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS (Darmasiswa RI Short Course Program)

The applicants shall:

a.  fill in and submit application form
b.  submit copy of admission letter from the proposed Indonesian Higher Education Institution.
c.  submit copy of academic transcript
d.  submit recommendation on health condition from the local physician.
e.  submit photo sized 4 x 6 cm (5 pieces)
f.  submit copy of passport valid for at least 18 months.
g.  have the ability of English (to communicate)


D. VISA ARRANGEMENT (Darmasiswa RI Reguler and Darmasiswa RI Plus Programs)

1. To study in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant is required to have a social visit visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant’s country of residence.
2. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant’s passport has to be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education, for necessary arrangements in obtaining recommendations of the State Secretary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


E. VISA ARRANGEMENT (Darmasiswa RI Short Course Program)

The selected participants shall apply the Limited Stay Visa / Visa Tinggal Terbatas (VITAS) on this program, acquired in the local Embassy / Consulate General / Foreign Ministry Office of the Republic of Indonesia after being endorsed by the Directorate General of Immigration, Jakarta. Therefore, participants shall send their copy of passport valid for at least 18 months at the minimum to Bureau of Planning and the International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education.


F. THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS

a.  Exemption on tuition fee.
b.  Allowance on living cost of Rp 1,000,000 (one million rupiah)
c.  Clothing allowance: a once only payment of Rp 300,000 (three hundred thousand rupiah)


G. AIRFARE TICKET

The Government of Republic of Indonesia does not provide the airfare ticket of the participants.


H. HEALTH INSURANCE

The participants are expected to have the international insurance since the organizing committee does not provide it.
